Pirates On The Dock

Pirates on the Dock were back again this September for an explosive weekend.  dBS Solutions were happy to be involved in another year of swashbuckling activities.  The event saw the return of the famous two mask brig Phoenix which made it’s appearance on BBC hit shows Poldark and Doctor Who.

There were also attractions such as the mermaid parade, carnival drumming by Mersey Batala and some jaw dropping manoeuvres by the Acro Juggles.Pirates on the Dock takes place at the Royal Albert Dock, where the Phoenix formed the centrepiece of the dramatic live cannon battle that saw the crew battle their enemy to protect their precious cargo, Megan The Queen of the Mersey Mermaid. This live action theatre involves a cast of live actors, stunt performers, and gymnasts in radio mics and with in ear monitors performing on the Phoenix as she sails around the docks loaded with pyrotechnics. dBS Solutions provide not only the distributed audio system for the audience of around 5000, but a communication system in both directions for the shows stage management team to talk to the ships skippers, actors and captains. Much of the PA system is distributed around the Albert docks 800 meter perimeter with cables, however some areas where the ship sails are transmitted with powerful 1W radio transmitters and receivers licensed specially for the event. Our team work tirelessly for the two days prior to the event to ensure that all the systems are ready for this very special and unique performance.

The mermaid Parade also made a return, visitors were encouraged to dress up in their best Pirate or mermaid costume to impress the Mermaid Queen as she makes her way around the dock. With Shanty performances and story telling stages around the docks, our engineers are onsite throughout to ensure all parts of the festival are heard loud and clear.
