dBS Solutions had the privilege of providing PA equipment and mics for the rehearsal for the handover of the Commonwealth Games from Australia’s Gold Coast to Birmingham.
Culture Central had 2022 young performers to take part in the ceremony choreographed by the Rosie Kay Dance Company. The finished product called ‘Go the distance’ took place on the 15th April on BBC2.
At the Ceremony, which was shown to a global audience of approximately 1bn people, the Commonwealth Flag passes from the Gold Coast to Birmingham with a welcome from young people and artists that signposts what Birmingham 2022 will offer.
Drawing on the city’s pool of talent, a young and diverse team of artists are leading the handover ceremony, film-maker Daniel Alexander has captured the heart of the city in a short film titled We’re From Birmingham. MC Lady Sanity will perform her track Go the Distance live in the Carrera Stadium, Gold Coast. Also performing will be her Birmingham-based band ‘Role Models’ featuring George Patrick Foley, Ryan Browne, Ashley Allen and Carl Gordon Browne.
Birmingham Poet Amerah Saleh will perform an especially-commissioned short spoken word piece, Tourist in My City and a cast of young people from across the city and the wider region will perform with award-winning choreographer Rosie Kay whose passion for dance will create a unique performance live from the city centre.
